Skiing and snowboarding are incredible sports that every person in Idaho should have a chance to experience.
On Saturday, December 14th, 2019 Tamarack is helping people ages 13 and up get their first taste of skiing or snowboarding. We are offering a complete learning package including a learning area ticket, ski or snowboard rental (skis/board, boots, and poles) plus a 90 minute lesson.
This program is completely free (yes, 100% free), but it’s for people ages 13 and up who have never skied or snowboarded before.
You will receive a coupon/code that will allow you to purchase 2 additional 1 hour private lessons, full day equipment rental and full day ticket for $20 upon completion of the Learn to Ski Day.
What to Bring:
You should come prepared with a winter jacket, snow pants and dressed in layers. It’s important that you have layers so you can shed a layer if you become to warm. Of course, a hat and gloves will be important as well.
Clothing made of synthetic wicking material is best. Wool is also good, but we encourage you to avoid wearing cotton.
What to Expect:
You’ll park in our main parking lot and you can walk to the Sports Dome. There, you’ll stop at the Ski School desk to check-in. After checking-in we will begin to outfit you in rental gear. Once you have your gear, you can place your shoes in a locker or in your vehicle.
Next, you’ll meet your instructor. They’ll work with you on our beginner area and help build your confidence with your new equipment. You’ll learn how to put on your skis or snowboard. Then, over the course of the lesson we’ll work towards teaching you the basics of the sports.
At the end of the lesson, you are welcome to continue to practice your news skills on our learning area.
Plus, we’ll have a coupon for you to return for a day of discounted skiing or riding later in the winter!
We’ll have dining available so you can fuel up after your day on the slopes. Plus, our retail area will be open just in case you forget a piece of clothing.
(FYI – your lift ticket is only good for the learning area. If you want to go farther up the mountain you will need to purchase a ticket or use the coupon we give you to come back and explore the mountain later in the season.)
Who Is This For:
The Idaho Learn to Ski Day is geared toward people who have never skied or snowboarded, but who have always wanted to. And, this is for people ages 13 and older. We want to invite people into the sport who have never had a chance before.
This program is not geared for people who have skied or snowboarded in the past. It’s not meant to be a refresher lesson for people who want to improve their skills. This is truly a program for someone who has never been on the snow.
As a result, the lift ticket offered during this event is only valid on the Discovery Learning area. Upper mountain access is only available by purchasing a ticket on that day.
Who Is This Not For:
The Idaho Learn to Ski Day is not for people ages 12 and younger. Why? The state of Idaho has many programs for children 12 and younger to learn how to ski. School groups, church groups and the Ski Idaho 5th and 6th Grade Passport are all ways children have a chance to learn. Additionally, Tamarack offers very affordable skiing for children – as low as $5 for an annual season pass. As a result, this event is focusing on people 13 and older.
Additionally, this isn’t a program for avid skiers who want to try snowboarding (or vice versa). This event is truly focused on people who have never had a chance to experience skiing or snowboarding.
This program is 100% free. But, we ask that if you sign up, you honor your reservation and come to the event. We have limited space and people who reserve a lesson and don’t come to the event have taken the opportunity from another person. (enough preaching… we’ll get off our soap box now!)
