MOUNTAIN EXPANSION

Tamarack's Proposed Expansion and Upgrade Plan

Tamarack Resort has outlined an upgrade strategy that includes an application for an approximately 2,400-acre special use permit (SUP) on the Boise National Forest (BNF) and Payette National Forest(PNF) and an array of proposed improvement projects within this area.

Proposed projects, including lift construction and terrain and snowmaking improvements and would span private, State of Idaho, and National Forest System land. The SUP area would occur on two non-contiguous areas of land.  The proposed northern portion of the SUP area would total approximately 400 acres, and the proposed southern portion of the SUP area would total approximately 2,000 acres. Approximately 2,200 acres of the SUP area would occur on the BNF, and 200 acres of the SUP area would occur on the PNF.

Approximately 1,400 acres of the southern SUP area would occur within the Poison Creek Roadless Area (PCRA), but no infrastructure would occur within the PCRA. A portion of the PCRA would be considered “lift-served” from the proposed Lift B, although Lift B is proposed within Tamarack’s existing ski area. The PCRA is currently accessible from Tamarack’s existing ski area because the PCRA is contiguous to the resort. The PCRA would be controlled for avalanche mitigation and patrolled by Tamarack’s ski patrol, and would also be managed for wildfire mitigation
